The Gallery/Writing Workshop - Emotion

Blimey these Mummy bloggers are a bit mean, joining forces and ganging up on us and setting us stupidly hard challenges. Anywhere else in the world this would be called bullying (yes I said it!)...except I don't have to do this and it is purely voluntary and I am only in a metaphorical arm lock - Doh!

OK, rant over - so Tara at StickyFingers and Josie at Sleep is for the Weak have set this here challenge. Do a picture and write about it and it has to epitomise an emotion.  Bloody Hell.

So here I go.

These are my babies...

Playing...

Fighting....

Exuberant...

Wild...

But always together....

And how do they make me feel?

Peaceful.
In my head full of rubbish and stress and worry,
I know they have each other.
They can drive me crazy,
I say 'don't', and NO!
Oh so much more than I once did,
My time is filled with them,
I am never bored,
I know they have each other
They make us a family.
They make me not just think of me.
I am less selfish, more loving, better.
I know they have each other.
I am at peace.

I Hope...

I have never really been bothered what people think of me.
I don't have that, 'oh but what will the neighbours think' gene.
I think I got it from my parents.
My Mum is pure eccentric.
My Dad just doesn't care.
My eldest daughter asked me a year or two ago, 'why don't you look like the other Mum's at school?'
'Because, why would I want to look like everyone else?'
'OK then'.
Accepting in the way that only a 5 year old can be.

My husband has recently started wearing his beard in little pony tails.
My now 7 year old says 'Daddy, is that weird?' pointing at his beard.
He says 'Probably'.
'OK then'. Still accepting.

There is going to come a time when my daughters will be mortified by us, at which point, will I start to care?

I honestly don't know, I hope my children will understand why I am like I am.

I hope I bring them up to accept everyone, regardless of how they look and respect people regardless of different beliefs.

I hope I give them the strength and confidence to not care either.

I hope that they realise that people with small minds are afraid of what they don't understand.

I hope they go through life with an open mind and always with hope and happiness in their hearts.

I hope they know their own minds and don't get badly influenced by others.

I hope they don't become a sheep and follow the crowds...

But, what I know for sure, is I will love them, no matter what, always.

The Interrogation - get ready to be grilled!

Tattoed Mummy has passed this baby on to me.

Here’s the thing, you get to be interrogated and then make you own questions and interrogate some other unsuspecting bloggers – what fun!

Here are the questions I was given with my answers.

What is your favourite name for a girl that you haven’t used for any of your own children?

Honey - This is because my parents kept bee's. Heather honey is my favourite type of honey, my eldest is called Heather (but not because of the Bee's, but Highlander) and once we called Heather, Heather, I would have liked to have called my second daughter Honey. Husband used his veto, darn it.
If you could live in any country EXCEPT the one you live in now which would you choose and why?

Italy - Why? The culture, the food, the wine, the beautiful people (living there would mean I would instantly be beautiful, and cultured and get to eat yummy food and drink slurptastic wine...hmmmmm***imagining***) Oh and the weather and gorgeous architecture, countryside and a bloomin' falling over tower - brilliant.

Chocolate or chips – if one was to be banned which would you pick?

Chips, Not really bothered by chocolate, I prefer twiglets..nay, love twiglets - not really bothered by chips either. Now if you asked me to choose between cheese and twiglets...now that would be a tough decision.

If you won a million on the lottery what would be the first thing you would buy?

2 houses, I would rent them out until my girls were old enough then they could either live in them or sell them. But, in theory, they would never have a mortgage which means they may have more life choices available to them. Oh and a bespoke suit from Greaves and Hawke and some Manalo's

What catches your eye first in a member of the opposite sex?

Smiley eyes.

Trapped on a dessert island you can only have one book to read, which would you pick?

One million and one ways to survive and escape a desert island.

If it had to be a reading book, I would probably go for the complete works of Shakespeare.

You get out of a store and realise you have something in your hand you didn’t pay for. You got away with it. Do you return it? Or keep quiet and keep it?

Depends what it is, but probably keep it.

What always cheers you up?

Seeing my family playing.

You have a whole day to yourself, but no money or internet. What would you do and would it be heaven or hell?

Take photos, watch films, read, enjoy the silence. Heaven.

Where will you go when you die?

Somewhere where all the people I loved and love either are or will be. Some where funny, maybe go for the reincarnation thing and have another go as someone else...don't really know. What will be will be.

Now who are the lucky tykes to get my questions? Mwah hahahahaha!

Deerbaby

Forty Not Out

Hot Cross Mum

and the lovely Geeky Mummy

  1. If you were a type of underwear, what would you be and why?
  2. If you had a super power what would it be and why?
  3. When you catch a glimpse of yourself in a shop window, are you happy with what you see?
  4. Do you wear make up every day? If so/not why?
  5. What is your favourite item of clothing?
  6. Do you have a best friend? What makes them best?
  7. Where do you go when you die?
  8. In two sentences or less - why do you blog?

Looking forward to the answers!

Happy Birthday Day

Today is my Dad's birthday, we often joke that this is very convenient for him...Birthday presents, cards AND fathers day cards, attention seeker!

Me and Dad (1972 ish)

Today is the day we all troop up to my parents house in a little village just outside Shrewsbury and have a birthday BBQ. Bizarrely the sun always shines (I can't remember a year when we have been rained off), and today looks to be the same. My Dad is 81 today.

I have lovely memories of my Dad. He is an old school Dad, he went to work as an Insurance Inspector, whilst my Mum stayed at home (she was not a traditional stay at home Mum, but more of that another day), but there was more to him than that.

He used to come home at tea time, and then read us a story at bedtime. Winnie the Pooh mostly, with a bit of Paddington thrown in. He would sing the Ums of Pooh properly, he still does occasionally now, but he is more likely to be seen with a grand daughter on his lap reading and re-enacting We are Going on a Bear Hunt

I remember my Dad coming in late from things but still coming up to kiss us good night, you could smell whisky and cigars on his breath.

I remember all the family holidays camping so that we could save up to go on holiday to Canada. Dad didn't really like camping, that was Mum's thing. There was quite a bit of grumbling, but he loved wondering around new places and finding things, be it a tumble down castle to a stream full of cows.

I remember the smell of honey as my Mum and Dad extracted the honey from the hives...yummy.

I remember Dad impersonating Spike Milligan singing, 'I'm walking backwards for Christmas'.

I remember the first time Dad got one of his plays published - The Banky Field is still in print and is a musical for schools (I was in it, at school). He had been re-writing the village Panto for years so this was a HUGE success. We were all really proud. Dad went onto to write other plays and musicals. My favourite is  Cinnabar which is a ghost story.

He also acted in things, I have seen him be anything from Falstaff to the Dame in panto (my brother does this now), then he moved on to the directing and writing.

When he retired he decided to write a book. He has just managed to get it published. Keep your eyes open for the Cheshire Ring, it is out soon. So inspiring. It is never too late.

My Dad is a bit of a romantic, for years Dad brought Mum one antique stained glass, wine glass, for their anniversary, each one a different colour to make up a set of twelve. They were so expensive he could only afford one a year. On their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary he took me to help him choose a necklace for Mum, she still wears it now. it's beautiful. Mum and Dad have been married for 54 years.

When I went to college he wrote me a letter every week. (This was back in the day of slow mail). I still have every one. I am sure there is a novel in there somewhere.

He calls me pruneling, janeykins, janey...there are very few who could get away with that!

Whenever I split up from boyfriends, he was always there, always saying the right things ('I never liked them', 'You're too good for him') but never interfered, even when he knew they were absolutely rubbish. He knew I had to find this out for myself.

I remember him saying, 'You must find a nice man, like me'. I did....eventually.

All in all my Dad is fab..he is now a brilliant Grandad (the grandchildren call him Bopa), he loves them more than anything else and shows them how to fish froglets out of his pond and points out the best places for bugs and things in his garden.
Where are the Froglets?

He is the best Dad, I still ask his advice about all sorts of things, I am looking forward to many more Father's Days/Birthdays with him.

And to see what he will do next.

The Gallery - Motherhood

This week was a real challenge, I hummed and ahhed and gathered and wandered through my photos. Tara is pure evil because not only is this a real tricky one, it is also going to be in a real live exhibition. Darn you Ms Cain.

Anyway, I thought about doing something arty, but in the end I went with this one. Lola is about 10 months old and all peaches and cream. And all I feel for her is love. It was so hard staying pregnant that when I did stay pregnant with her she felt (feels) like a miracle.

The picture isn't fab quality (It's before I got the SLR) but it captures how I feel about her.

I'm a Bad Blogger...

Dear How I like my Coffee readers,

I would like to apologise, formally to all of you who read my blog. Lately all I have been doing is blipping and doing the Gallery at StickyFingers (which is an awesome challenge this week, by the way). I haven't done any actual writing, about anything, for ages.

Excuse Number 1

I did go on holiday for a week and had limited access to the internet, which sounds a bit like an excuse...well it is an excuse...

Excuse Number 2

and my eldest broke her arm...

Excuse Number 3

And we spent three days of a weeks holiday in Ireland, in three different hospitals....Honestly, she had to have an operation and everything..

Excuse Number 4

Then I went back to work and it was really really busy.....and I was really really tired.

Excuse Number 5

I may have drunk some wine in the evenings to relieve the stress of everything, but the demon drink makes writing really tricky and then I stay up too late which makes me tired...round and round I go on my wheel.

Excuse Number 6

I have also been finishing my stupid NVQ which I am doing for work, where I have to copy the answers from the book or I get penalised...I cannot emphasise enough the stupid-ness of this learning method or how annoying this is..(Mental note to add to one of my grumpy lists!)

Excuse Number 7

One thing that has really been eating up my time recently, Is my new phone.  I got myself a HTC, I thought I was going to get an iPhone, but went with this and I am soooo happy, I have spent a considerable amount of time playing with it...I am a little bit in love with it because it is 'Grrrrrreat', as Tony the Frosties Tiger would say. Sorry.

Excuse Number 8

And the weather has been pretty lovely..so I have been outside a lot

Excuse Number 9

And the dog ate my laptop....??????

OK no more excuses (I haven't got a dog)...Let's just give me a C- and move on shall we, with a 'must try harder'.

And once again my sincerest apologies...I feel a blog with feelings and everything coming here soon - honest.
