Still in: Denim on Denim

Denim-on-denim from last season appears to be still on trend, with more and more celebrities being caught on camera with this head-to-toe blue coordinated outfit. The update on this look: pick a lighter denim shirt, preferably of a light-weight fabric (to be more comfortable in this summer heat, phew), to wear over a darker shade of jean bottoms. Or vice versa would probably look good too.

 Carrie Underwood
 Katherine Heigl
 Lauren Conrad
Charlize Theron - in her three differing takes on the trend
 Anne Hathaway
 Rihanna

Even the dudes are on the bandwagon!

 Paul Wesley
 Zac Efron
And with Karl Lagerfeld's approval from his Chanel Resort 2013, it's safe to say: BRING ON THE BLUES!

Trend Alert: High-top sneakers.

I'm possibly the biggest advocate for dressed-down casual I personally know so this trend is definitely not-to-be-missed.

 Alessandra Ambrosio
 Whitney Port
 Kate Bosworth
 Mandy Moore
 Heidi Klum
 Jessica Hart
 Olivia Palermo
Ashley Tisdale
 Jessica Alba
 Elle Fanning
Olivia Wilde
Miranda Kerr
My favorite celebs photographed with their high-tops above are probably Kate Bosworth (with her light grey sneakers with her blue sweater), Olivia Palermo, Jessica Alba and Heidi Klum, in that descending order. I'm looking for pairs that are so big they would throw off the proportion of my already-really-petite frame. They're all over Hollywood but strangely I don't see them all over the shops over here in Singapore. Bummer.

I'm guessing my only hopes here are to get them from Vans or Converse, but I'm not really look for thin, canvas sneakers so Chuck Taylors are out. I've been looking at this pair from the Vans website, called the Connie Hi:
I LOVE IT! I haven't seen it in the shops here though. Really keeping my fingers crossed that they will bring them in, soon. Haven't seen any other pairs that I really like. So am still on a looking out. Meanwhile, really tempted by TOMS!

Justin Bieber Returns to Scene of First Public Selena Gomez Kiss

Justin Bieber will be returning to the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas in what many will mark as the one-year anniversary of his first public kiss with Selena Gomez. It seems hard to believe it was only a year ago these lovely teens got together, publicly anyways.

MET Gala

Now I understand why most bloggers who updates often have taken to full-time blogging. Work takes up more than half my time a day and zaps up probably 3/4 of my strength.

But my favorite red carpet event in showbiz had me muster up enough strength just to screen through the best and worst looks for the night: the MET Ball! Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, this year's gala is co-chaired by actress Carey Mulligan, Vogue editor Anna Wintour and designer Miuccia Prada.

I shall get things started with looks I really didn't like.

Of course, Kristen Stewart had to be on the list. I have nothing against her but I wish people would stop saying how stylish she is because her casual looks consist only of sneakers, a tee and a pair of skinny jeans. Oh, how could I forget, her messy hair which she has earned a name for. Appearing without boyfriend Robert Pattinson, Kristen was wearing Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière, I love that the label dresses her 'cause she carries the edgy clothing really well but not this time. The hair and colors and pattern and shoes (did I mention hair already?) were throwing each other off, everything was distracting, and she looked nothing like she was attending a ball.
Anne V, model and ex-girlfriend of Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine was in head-to-toe Prada but I didn't like the fringe on the low-cut dress at all. The fringes threw the entire look off, the dress probably would've looked a lot better without them.
Also in Prada and looking drape-y, only more disastrous, was Resident Evil's Milla Jovovich. There's nothing else I can say about her look except that I'm really disappointed someone as hot as her would show up looking so horrendous.
Diane Kruger's looks on the red carpet have always been fluctuating between the really good and really bad extremes, and this time, wearing Prada, it was a miss for me. The gown made her really shapeless, although I really like the royal purple on her pale complexion. Perhaps her undone hair made the look kinda awkward 'cause while she looks like she's on the casual side from chin up, she's dressier below. This entire look is just confusing.
Victoria Justice looked out of place in her colorful MCQ by Alexander McQueen frock. Perhaps pulling her hair back into a sophisticated up-do would have made the look more formal, but I doubt it would have saved her from looking like she was dressed for prom instead. Her purple ankle-strap heels were a mismatch as well. I'm surprised she was even invited.
Sarah Jessica Parker was missing the mark, even though she was wearing one of my favorite designers, Valentino. I don't see why she has to go all match-y with her dress and Manolo Blahniks (though they're lovely pieces individually), and I wish she did something different to her hair. It's getting so boring.
Mirror Mirror leading lady Lily Collins wore Valentino. I really like the dress (duh) but I prefer to see her in something bold rather than lacey, something that would complement her sharp features and dark hair better.
Emma Roberts always look great in her down time running errands, but on the red carpet....not so much. Nothing against her, but her boobs didn't seem to fill the bustier top of her Escada mustard yellow belted dress. Despite being fashion-forward with the peplum-cut, I wasn't sold on her look mainly because of the bad fit at the bust area and the creases look really awful.
Practically a Lanvin spokesperson, Emma Stone walked the red carpet in a creation by the label's creative director Alber Elbaz. I really like the frock, but somehow Emma looked like a kindergartener with some child-like wonder in her smile...and in her hair. So it didn't work for me.
Only because she's Florence Welch, I don't see why anyone else would want to look like a tiered wedding cake on fashion industry's big night. It's a dress that looks like a work of art on the Alexander McQueen runway, but really unwearable off it.
I would probably label Chloe Sevigny's look the "Worst Dressed of the Night". The Miu Miu mirrored dress was too revealing for my liking on such a formal occasion and she looked more like she had just knocked off work from the set of her upcoming movie (with Amanda Seyfried) Lovelace. At least her shoes are something to look at, but that aside, she was showing too much skin.

There wasn't many celebrities who caught my eyes at this year's event but here's a few that stood out. Alice in Wonderland's Mia Wasikowska was elegant in her wine red Prada dress with embellished collar and waistline. The dress was so chic and I love how she picked this lip color to match with her gorgeous gown.
Brit Marling was spot-on in her Valentino Haute Couture gown and her beautiful hair pulled into a half-do. I'd love this look for myself.
Amy Adams channelled old Hollywood glamour in her Giambattista Valli monochromatic pleated gown and side-swept wavy locks. This look is one of my favorites because I absolutely love how stunning she looked with such a simple dress in a flattering cut.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, I love a celeb who dares to take risks on the red carpet and the following two big names did just that. Elizabeth Banks of The Hunger Games was outstanding in her Mary Katrantzou peplum number. I love the differing graphic prints along with her amazing hair. Thumbs up!
Jessica Stam (if you didn't know, this It girl is the name behind the Marc Jacobs quilted Stam bag) looked like a goddess all dressed up in her John Galliano for Christian Dior Haute Couture dress. Love the power in her stance and eyes. Electrifying!
Mad Men's January Jones flaunts her post-baby figure in a bright yellow Versace bustier gown. Nobody carries Versace like she does and she looked amazing on this glamorous night. Love it even it more that she picked that statement turquoise Cartier necklace that perfectly contrasted against her dress.
It goes without saying that when you're co-chairing such an event, you gotta look fabulous yourself. Carey Mulligan did just that as she rocked the red carpet in a Prada halter metal dress. Her coif is so edgy!
Christina Ricci was picturesque in her Thakoon dress that featured a giant bow on the rear and a long silky train. I love the structure and the great fit of the dress on the petite actress. Everyone should look like an eyeful on such a beautiful occasion.
Nobody does vintage like Kirsten Dunst and she looked so amazingly pretty in her Rodarte ensemble. Her look is pure perfection.
In Tory Burch was funny girl Rashida Jones, who chose this floral number to wear as she walked the red carpet with Tory Burch herself and Brooklyn Decker. It's actually my pick for the night, solely because I WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS DRESS FOR MYSELF! If I could afford it, I would so buy it. It's subtly sexy and the hand-painted floral design is so pretty!

To conclude this post, just thought I'd point out the two trends spotted on the red carpet that night:
