Trend Alert: Flared Trousers

We've talked about flare-legged denim. Now, how about flared trousers?

These are big on the runway as androgynous, mens-wear inspired outfits are still a hit among the designers' fall collections.

This trendy piece is to be worn mid-waist, and with high heels - they work particularly well with chunky ones or platforms. Like it's denim cousin, the trousers should cover your footwear, either completely or revealing a tiny bit of the front of your shoes. Remember to tailor them to the correct length while having your ideal heels on.

Olivia Palermo does them right, all the time! I simply love her outfit at the Mango event!

Debra Messing also wore her look sleek and chic, adding a touch of luxe with her fur vest.

Speaking of luxe, nobody does classy better than Victoria Beckham, who is seen here in an all-white outfit. Pure sophistication.

Lea Michele of Glee made an appearance in a pair of navy flared trousers at a Superbowl event. The talented singer-actress dressed down as she matched her bottoms with an embellished sweater and a simple scarf around her neck. While I adore her choice of colours for the look, I don't quite agree with the silhouette she opted for since the flared pant needs a flowy top worn above it to balance the wide-ness below.

A-Team actress Jessica Biel made a talk-show appearance in her version of the flared pant worn with a soft blue chiffon top as part of a more casual get-up. The look wasn't ideal for me, since the trousers look really wrinkled. Take this as a point to note when shopping for your pair: get them wrinkle-free and made out of a good material. A well-made pair is worth the splurge.
