Star Awards 红星大奖 2011.

/edit_ I've added more pictures, courtesy of xinmsn

Singapore's grandest local TV award show has come and gone. The second installation of the two-part Star Awards, or better known as 红星大奖, 2011 took place this evening at Resorts World, Sentosa. The entrance of the various celebrities in the luxurious Mercedes Benz cars, the long golden carpet paved the way to the event - nothing short of glamorous. But I must say, I was a little disappointed with this year's outfits that turned up on the red carpet. It's spring/summer season but there was an overload of black outfits. Black is always a go-to colour for formal events but when you only get to doll up once a year, I'd say to go all out.
Colour is always nice to have on the red carpet, and you don't necessarily have to go bright and bold (though it was greatly appreciated since Spring 2011 is all about it), soft pastels are great too.
So imagine the joy when I saw Zoe Tay and Bryan Wong wearing one of the season's hottest colour - orange. I don't actually have an image of Caldecott Hill's "Ah Jie" in her dress (not at the moment, at least), but this was the Jil Sander piece the actress picked out of the label's Spring 2011 collection:
I'm personally not crazy over the dress' silhoutte but I must say Zoe Tay managed to pull it off effortlessly. Her make-up was not overdone, which made her minimalistic bold dress stand out. It was great that she picked such a difficult piece to wear, but it was amazing how she looked so good in it. Definitely a winning streak from last week's show:
Here's Bryan Wong (with friend and fellow host, Kym Ng) looking like a winner in his bold orange blazer!
Adding more colours to the red carpet were the nomiated newscasters, who showed up in spectacular gowns, Aileen Tan (in a turquoise strapless gown matched perfectly with a nice permed hairdo), and Malaysian actress Tiffany Leong (pictured below in a red hot dress featuring a high slit and peeking beneath her dress, gorgeous turquoise heels).
Rising actress Rebecca Lim (below, left) threw on a D&G floral maxi dress which added a little bit of fun on the red carpet. The frock certainly matched her youthful vibrance, but I didn't like the sleek hairstyle she decided to wear with the look. Flowy locks would have been great, as it did on the model, maybe a slight perm would have matched the light fabric better.
Some other dresses which I really liked from the D&G Spring 2011 collection:
Guess I love the more romanticised colours on the floral prints and the sleeves kind of acts to the dresses' femininity as well.

Belinda Lee was sexy in a Burberry Prorsum ruffles short dress that has some unique strap details and a bareback. It was a piece that suited her personalty - sweet but also edgy. Her body looks toned and hot, the dress looked like a great way to show off that gorgeous figure of hers.
Fann Wong displayed her wild side this evening as she strutted down the red carpet with hubby Christopher Lee in a Burberry Prorsum studded leather jacket over a soft embellished short dress. It was a little too much contrast, but it was a practical choice in the air-conditioned room and it did add an edge to her feminine nude-coloured mini-dress.
During the show, Fann Wong gave out the Top 10 Favourite Male Artistes Award in a leopard print strapless dress by Dolce & Gabbana. No pictures, unfortunately. But I do hope xinmsn releases more of them, otherwise I don't know what those photogs were there for. But here's a picture of the dress on British actress Helen Mirren, who wore the exact same piece to the premiere of her latest on-screen work with Russell Brand, Arthur. What a coincidence that the dress was seen over the same weekend, in two different parts of the world.
While both actresses managed to exude their own unique aura in the floor-sweeping gown, I was hoping that Fann would put on something with more colour, considering that she had worn black for the first show. These pieces from Fendi would have looked great on her:
Michelle Chong, known for her multi-personas in The Noose (Channel 5, 8:30pm every Tuesday), was cool in an androgynous ensemble, consisting of an Hermes top. The celebrity wore the piece with a pair of black trousers, which was definitely an outstanding and unique take on the androgynous look instead of simply opting for an entire suit. Loved it.
That's about all that I could conclude in my research of the outfits so far, just in these couple of hours after the show itself. Hopefully more info and pictures would be available in time to come. I just hope I can get some info on what actress Yvonne Lim (below, right) had worn. I remember seeing it somewhere before, and I thought it was Miu Miu, but I can't seem to locate the runway picture of it, so perhaps it was something else. Nonetheless, Yvonne looked so good in it, as she does every year at the ceremony. She always surprises me with her choice of outfits, like she did last year in Miu Miu
To end off, I'd like to say that these two pieces chosen off the Badgley Mischka collection are great and they would have been my choice dresses for the show. For some colour, the fuchsia glitter gown would be perfect for some shimmer under the spotlight, with the black bow to give some shape and contrast. If black were to be choice of the night, the beautifully crafted dress with shoulder details and matching gloves would be perfect. Even if we had to lose the gloves, the silhouette of the dress wraps the model's figure so well and the embellishments make the perfect accessories.
