About a week ago I went to see Love & Other Drugs in the theatres.
I didn't have a very high expectations for the show since the trailer wasn't quite impressive, but I caught it anyway, since it appears to be a romance comedy. The concept was pretty good, the pharmaceutical drugs and all, and the love story revolving around Jake Gyllenhaal's playboy role of Jamie and Anne Hathaway's character Maggie who is diagnosed with Parkinson's at a young age.
What really surprised me was Anne Hathaway's literally revealing performance where you actually see her bits (not the part below the waist of course; the movie's M18, by the way). She just comes across to have a very clean image since the start of her career, but I guess to survive in Hollywood you gotta keep taking up such breakthrough roles. But you know, I loved her in Princess Diaries, and she was always the pure, grounded actress who isn't bothered by image issues.
Nonetheless, I think she had a great chemistry with Jake Gyllenhaal on-screen and though I never fancied Jake in anyway, he gave me pretty good vibes through his portrayal in this movie. He actually carried off the playboy image pretty well.
One thing that bothered me, however, was the sudden turn of events towards the end of the flick and how abruptly it ended. It was as though the producer/director was running out of film and he just had to cut his story short and straight to the ending. It still is a pretty touching show, so I'll give it a 3.5 - watch only if you want to catch something light-hearted.
