Held annually, The Art of Elysium is an event, or more specifically, a charity gala held in support to the cause of giving hope and offering artistic workshops to critically ill children. You can read more about The Art of Elysium here.
This year, being the 4th time the gala is conducted, continues to draw a stream of generous celebrities to the black-tie event. The dudes who turned up include James Franco (catch him in 127 Hours!), Jake Gyllenhaal, Gerard Butler, Elijah Wood, 50 Cent and Sandra Bullock's ex-husband Jesse James (who by the way showed up in the arms of Kat Von D).
Have a look at what the girls wore to the "Heaven" Gala held on the 15th:
Julianne Hough took to the night in a single-shoulder purple gown to which she matched with a pair of purple suede platforms. Julianne is really beginning to catch my eye on the red carpets and I actually like almost all of her looks that I've seen thus far. I hope she keeps up with this marvelous appearances. I really like this dress, the colour and style is so sassy.
Leighton Meester wore Louis Vuitton and my first thought was "You're kidding, right?" I do like the fact that Leighton loves experimenting with different looks but it kinda feels like there are more misses than there are hits. She just didn't manage to carry off that piece from the label's Spring 2011 collection, not half as good as the runway model. Perhaps the dress looked better on the runway with the bright white lights shining on it, revealing the tier of colours. I didn't think her embroidery clutch worked with the dress either. The look is just "blah" for me.
Eva Mendes displayed her feminine self in a Valentino floor-sweeping gown. I swear Valentino makes the best red carpet dresses. Eva also wore her hair up which was held with a patterned hairband. She looked princess-cute on the whole.
Rachel Bilson of Jumper was in a Zac Posen peach dress at the gala. It was a simple look, nothing over-the-top. Even the accessorizing was minimal to the exception of those contrasting green earrings. Not my favourite look of hers but it's alright.
House actress Jennifer Morrison attended with her boyfriend Amaury Nolasco and she showed how to rock a bargain. Who needs a designer's piece when you can look equally striking in this red number from ASOS? The look was completed with Samantha Wills statement earrings, Yves Saint Laurent pumps and a Calvin Klein clutch. I'm thinking, perhaps she should have cinched her dress in at the waist with a belt to give the look more shape, what do you think?
Up In The Air actress Anna Kendrick looked like such a darling in a short midnight-blue frock by Romona Keveza, to which she matched with a pair of ankle-strap Louboutins. In a way, I guess taking the "sweet" approach to her looks defines Anna's style on the red carpet but while she does suit the whole package, I'm not really feeling it, maybe because I personally prefer edgier looks anytime. But this dress she picked are a tad bit different from the chiffon and white ones which we always see her in, so I'm glad she chose this look for the Art of Elysium gala instead.
Low profile Kirsten Dunst took part in the charity event wearing Rodarte. I do like this dual tone dress that features a high waist and a slit on the front. The contrast between the colours and patterns are perfect and Kirsten pulled the look off pretty well.
Looking delighted as ever, Kelly Osbourne also went for a dual-coloured frock by Devon. As usual, some amount of black would always be seen on Kelly but the soft pink is really working against the British personality's fair skin tone. The bodice is really special, and it's beautifully dotted with embellishments that makes the short dress look more elegant and appropriate for the evening affair. I'm loving the clean, nude make-up and those vintage blonde curls too. Kelly Osbourne finished off the look with a pair of black pumps.
Rashida Jones looked so chic in her white Marchesa chiffon dress that features a giant detail on the front. She pulled the look together with a leather jacket from 7 For All Mankind that gave the entire outfit a rock-chick edge. It's been awhile since the soft and tough look have been put together in one look so I'm giving out compliments for this one.
Jennifer Love Hewitt looked like a belated Christmas gift in this black Paule Ka strapless. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and in this case I actually like the strategic position of the giant ribbons that creates volume to an otherwise straight-cut dress. It's great that these statement details are found on a different part of the dress instead of the usual bustline and hems. I actually prefer the actress in this look than the one she sported on the red carpet to the Golden Globes.
Brittany Snow glistened in her gold Catherine Deane gown as she made an appearance at the "Heaven" gala. In my opinion, the colour choice wasn't right mainly because it clashes with her blonde locks. It also looked a little too dull for the night event so I'm not feeling this look of Brittany's.
Finally, we have Brazilian beauty Camilla Belle in an Alberta Ferretti feathered frock. I'm in a slight dilemma about this look 'cause on one hand, I thought the dress made Camilla look a little frumpy below the waist but on second thoughts, the pointy Brian Atwood heels seems to balance out the full look and perhaps no other actress could have pulled it off the way she did. What do you think?
