Lots of events taking place lately brought the English Harry Potter actress back into the red carpet spotlight. Emma Watson was first spotted at a pre-BAFTA party in a club wearing a plunging neckline dress. The button-down silk/satin frock was held together with the Brown University student's bright red lips, black pumps, a glittery clutch and wait a minute, cuffs on both hands??
I think that was totally overdoing things since one would be more than enough, though I didn't think the cuffs were necessary at all. She could simply have gone without accessories. Black pumps also made her look more boring. The dress wasn't such an ideal choice 'cause she's showing too much skin from her broad shoulders, toned arms to her cleavage and legs. Plus, the cutting of the dress isn't flattering for her strong built.
Paparazzi even caught shots of her nipple (serious!) and undies when she was getting into a car. A few words of advice for her: pick up some etiquette in boarding and alighting vehicles and tape your clothing to your body especially when you don't intend to wear a bra for the day.
At the BAFTAs itself, Emma worked the red carpet in a Valentino number from the Spring Couture collection. I love Valentino's red carpet dresses but I think Emma Watson just killed it for me. She looked so dull, it was like looking at Michelle Williams wearing Valentino for the Globes. The dress was beautiful but it didn't look right on Emma at all. And she really needs to work on her body posture. Kristen Stewart is doing a much better job, for someone who doesn't fancy red carpets and camera flashlights. Those earrings are a horrible mismatch against the flowy and soft gown.
At another party, Emma wore a short piece, also from the Valentino Spring Couture 2011 collection. The pink chiffon dress was probably the best one out of all these looks we're seeing. The dress is pretty and softens her broad frame, though I don't quite like the shoes on her (despite her having adopted the entire look off the runway). Perhaps something strappy would've made her look more feminine. I'm sorry, her pixie cut just isn't working at all.
Emma Watson was also at the Elle Style Awards, at which she picked up the Style Icon Award?! I think it's a great encouragement for the young star but I don't think she has proven herself just as yet. She claims she loves fashion (who doesn't?) but I think she hasn't got it in her. Style icons are like Blake Lively, Alexa Chung, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, etc. Emma is a marvelous actress but I don't think fashion is her strongest selling point at this moment. Or if she has a stylist, I'll blame her for the non-impressive looks of Emma's.
At the show, Emma wore a sleeveless frock by Hakaan, which features cut-outs at the waist. I don't think the cutting at the shoulders and sleeves were flattering for her arms, they made her look more masculine and it's not working with the pixie cut. I think she needs to stop trying so hard to look edgy and pick some feminine outfits that would complement her features and tone down her strong built. And I want to see Emma in longer hemlines 'cause her legs aren't her best features, her face is.
What do you think of Emma Watson's looks?
